Jenny Mathiasson

Jenny started out in the Swedish heritage sector where she discovered her passion for ancient monuments and archaeology. As her interest shifted towards collections she started volunteering with national and regional museums as well as commercial conservation units, working with archaeology, social history, and ecclesiastical materials.

Jenny Mathiasson

She moved to the UK in 2007 and earned her BSc in heritage management in Bournemouth. During her time there she participated in excavations in Dorset, consulted with Heritage Malta, and undertook a placement at Manchester Museum.

Jenny trained as an object conservator at Cardiff University on the Conservation Practice MSc course between 2010 and 2012, which included an internship at the McManus Art Gallery and Museum in Dundee. Projects during this placement included the conservation of an ancient Egyptian cartonnage and the successful repair of funerary material from Ptolemaic Egypt.

Following her training Jenny worked with archaeological ceramics at Cardiff Conservation Services, before becoming joint project conservator and collections care assistant at the University of Cambridge Museums. In Cambridge she worked on collections across six museums, spanning natural history, archaeology, science, modern art, classical sculpture, and ethnography.

In 2015 she took up post at the Whipple Museum of the History of Science where she focused on collections care and the conservation of scientific instruments. She has also worked with the Cambridge Archaeological Unit and has been a freelance exhibitions conservator in London.

Jenny took over Clifton Conservation Services in 2016. Her specialities include archaeology, world culture, and social history objects.
